Muenkel London is an online gallery, blog and art shop based in the heart of Walthamstow in the capital. Volker Balk, owner and curator of the site, initially approached us through Twitter to discuss his needs and ensure that our offering was the right fit for his company. He decided that Coderra was absolutely the right pair of hands for his new project – to create a stylish website which could take his online business to the next level and show off creative flair in an exciting new way.

Volker required a purpose-built online gallery and blog for his venture, which showcases artistic talent from across the world. The brief was to create a website design that made the images the main focus, with sections for featured artists, upcoming exhibitions, and an ecommerce area where bespoke and original art could be sold through the website. The site also required a ‘streaming’ section, so that Volker could occasionally ‘go live’ to his fans and show them what he was currently working on. A blog was also implemented, giving users something new and interesting to read whenever they visited the Muenkel London website.

Our website design is clean and minimal, allowing the images to take centre stage, as they always should in an online gallery environment. This totally bespoke project was built from the ground up, with unique code to ensure that the Muenkel London website is truly one-of-a-kind. Using a secure iframe we integrated the ecommerce solution, so that customers could shop the Muenkel collections, which are listed on Amazon. This setup means that customers don’t need to navigate to the external Amazon website to buy a product that has caught their eye – they can complete the purchase through the Muenkel London website. The site was non-responsive, as was the custom in 2012.
