H Ballard Motors is an online shop we built on Woocommerce with WordPress several years ago. While it has been built as an ecommerce the customer is using it as an online catalog of cars for sale. The website is setup so that if the client enters a price for the car then they can purchase it online. If they don’t enter a price then the product displays the information the customer needs to be able to make enquiries. At the time they were undecided as to whether they would use it to sell online. We believe that you should plan a website that is future proof – that is why we made sure that if they did want to sell online they could do so with a few clicks.

The H Ballard Motors website was planned to make it as easy to administer as possible. To make the layouts as uniform as possible we structured the product pages to look identical. We also added checked boxes so that the client could quickly select product attributes to display on the front end. This made sure that there was as little data input as possible. By ticking a few boxes the product’s key points are displayed with ease. While they had a similar function in their old website, it wasn’t as easy to administer. The H Ballard Motors website was originally on Joomla! which was a lot harder to manage. Our task therefore was to make a design that was close to their existing one, while converting the website to WordPress.

The website colours were chosen as a result of their branding and their old website. The client felt that they didn’t want to change much, but wanted the new website to be responsive. As part of the rebuild be made sure that every aspect of the website resized on mobiles and tablets. This makes it easier to navigate across platforms. Because of this their mobile visitors can view the cars they have for sale without having to pinch and resize the screen.
