The Spinney Day Nursery was a redevelopment project to provide a responsive nursery web design. The website is pretty similar to how it was before we did our work. Our main task was to recreate the WordPress template to make it responsive to mobiles, ipads and phones. The difficulty with a project like this is always with making the design look as good on mobile as it does on desktop. The nursery web design was quite simple, but many functions needed to be coded in.
The header has a built in social media share facility and a custom header that can be changed per page / section. We also have custom sidebars setup to display menus and widgets across sections.
The nursery web design is very image heavy. When we download the website for development the full size images were all in the media library. This was along with many image sizes they weren’t using. Images they were using weren’t compressed as all and so the sit loading time was negatively effected. We setup image optimisation, compression and removed images that weren’t being used. This made sure that the site load time was speeded up which had a positive effect on their SEO.
The blog of the nursery web design is huge and runs back to 2011. The nursery opted to show all posts from a single month on one page, with archives then in the sidebar. We integrated easy to use galleries for the admin to post images on pages and posts. These are used extensively across the website, and are completely responsive. This is really important because most web users now visit websites from their iPads or mobile devices.
This website used to just run the blog off WordPress and the rest of the content was html and php. We redeveloped the website and skinned wordPress with their design to make sure all content could be managed.
