Neil Thompson

The Neil Thompson Blog was built as part of a cluster of websites for Neil Thompson in a series of WordPress migration from Joomla. Like many clients, they found Joomla difficult to manage and opted to migrate their websites to WordPress. The first step in the WordPress migration from Joomla was prepping the content for import. From there we then setup the Karma theme using one of the preset colours to brand the site. Some customisation was required for this template but overall, since the template for each website was the same it will make the management of all their websites easier.

WordPress migration from Joomla is quite simple on small websites like this one. Most of the content was textual which speeded up the import. There were images that we had to remap in the media library but this was straight forward. We setup all the main articles and applied several changes to give them the look they were after for their blog. It’s not always easy to migrate from one platform to another, but with good planning it can be done well.

While Joomla has lots of extensions and plugins that are not available on WordPress, the WordPress equivalent is usually better. This makes converting to WordPress even more beneficial since each website gains greater functionality. Using a WordPress theme in WordPress migration from Joomla is also cost effective since despite the initial outlay on costs for the conversion. There are more developers, plugins and better themes and extensions available.

This website acts as a blog but also funnels people to the various services offered by Neil Thompson. Several of his services have separate websites all powered by the Karma theme. This was the better approach for his web design since it kept all sites consistent but also made them individual.
