The Human Solutions web design was built as part of a cluster of websites for Neil Thompson in a series of Joomla to WordPress migration. Many clients find Joomla impossible to manage and opt to convert their website to a platform that is easier to manage. The first step in the Joomla to WordPress migration was checking through the content and prepping it for import. From there we then setup the Karma theme around it, using one of the preset colours to frame the site. Some customisation of the template was required for this web design. But overall, since the template for each website is the same it will make the administration of all their websites easier.
For a smaller web site like this one, a Joomla to WordPress migration is quite simple. Most of the content was textual so we were able to run a quick smooth import. However there were images that we had to remap in the media library to make sure that there were no broken links. We setup all the main articles and applied several changes to the main template to give them the look they were after for their blog. It’s not always possible to migrate from one platform to another easily, but with good planning it can be done well.
There are a vast array of extensions and plugins for WordPress that are usually better than the Joomla equivalent. This makes converting to WordPress even more beneficial since each website gains greater functionality. One clear example of this is the slider on the homepage which uses revslider – one of the most powerful carousel plugins available. Using a WordPress theme in Joomla to WordPress migration can be cost effective since despite the initial outlay on costs for the conversion, management of WordPress is cheaper. There are more developers, more free plugins and better themes to choose from.
